I've been advised to get titanium plates+screws removed. It touches root/nerve of one of my bottom-right teeth, causing constant pain. But I'm hoping to get a revision done with absorbable plates+screws. My chin's canted & wider than it should be. Plus, it's not well aligned with the jawline. I'm looking for an expert who can give me desired symmetric & aesthetic results. As there'll only be horizontal movement, am I a good candidate? Are they 100% safe?
Answer: Revision chin surgery It appears that your sliding genioplasty was well done and the screws are not touching the roots of your teeth based on the CT. I don't necessarily recommend the removal of plates and screws but it can be easily accomplished. Based on your photos, perhaps some chin reshaping is all that may be required to improve the aesthetics. A profile photo would be helpful along with a full face frontal photo.

Answer: Genioplasty If you are experiencing constant pain due to the titanium plates and screws touching the root or nerve of one of your teeth, it may be necessary to have them removed. Using absorbable plates and screws for a revision surgery may be an option, but it is important to consult with a qualified oral and maxillofacial surgeon or plastic surgeon who can evaluate your medical history, examine your jaw and chin, and determine the best course of action. In terms of the aesthetic concerns you have mentioned, it may be possible to address these issues with a revision surgery. However, it is important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of the surgery, as the results may depend on a variety of factors including the severity of your current condition, the quality of your bone and tissue, and the skill of the surgeon performing the procedure. Absorbable plates and screws are generally considered safe for use in jaw and chin surgeries, and they are designed to gradually dissolve over time. However, as with any surgery, there are some risks associated with the use of these materials, including infection, implant failure, and tissue reaction. Your surgeon can discuss these risks with you in more detail and help you make an informed decision about the best course of treatment for your individual needs. It is important to choose a highly experienced and qualified surgeon who has a track record of successful jaw and chin surgeries. You can research potential surgeons by reading reviews, looking at before-and-after photos, and asking for recommendations from your primary care physician or other healthcare professionals. Additionally, it is important to ask questions and discuss your concerns with your surgeon before the surgery to ensure that you have a clear understanding of the procedure and the expected outcomes. I hope this helps, best of luck !

Answer: Genioplasty Good Morning MissPissed,I hope this message finds you well. I understand your concerns regarding a widened lower jaw. The change of titanium plates seems only related to your symptoms of pain but in that same setting we can replace the plates along with shaving off the lateral aspects of your jaw so to shape it more symmetrically rather than keep it in such a broad shape as is already present. Resorbable plates are an option but with this much bone surgery involved I would still suggest using more permanent plates.Although an image is a great starting point , I would recommend a video consultation / in person consultation with a board certified Aesthetic Plastic surgeon to take this forward and thoroughly answer your query.
