Tattooing numb area of old necrosis site, is it safe?

At two years it should be safe. I'd also discuss a revision if tattooing isn't something you'd do normally. Your surgeon may be able to revise the scar to be more attractive. Good luck.

While the numbness could have been a result of the necrosis and resulting repair, it is normal to have some areas of permanent residual numbness, especially in the middle of the lower abdomen between the belly button and the scar.  This happens in virtually everyone.  Tattooing will be no problem in that area and the numbers will decrease the discomfort of the tattooing.  Best of luck!

Tattooing the area should be safe at this point; however, you may be better off having the scar revised. After several years, there is often enough skin elasticity to remove relatively wide scars from skin necrosis. Good luck!

Thanks for your question.  Being 2 years out from surgery you should be perfectly fine to proceed with a tattoo of the scar(s) as long as the area is 100% healed.  Make sure you tell the tattoo artist that you have some numbness in that area so that he or she does not cause any injury.  I would not expect a tattoo to cause skin death again.  Your tattoo artist will actually have the most experience with this, so be sure to explain everything in full before you proceed, but it is safe from a Plastic Surgery perspective.  Best wishes!

I agree with the other doctors. Specifically, tattoo would not have risk of skin necrosis at this point but the condition of the scar may affect the ability of the skin to "take" the tattoo ink. It would be nice to see a photo of the area that you are referring to, but in general, if the area is soft it should take a tattoo without any problem.  It will actually be a bonus that it is numb!  Tattooing will not cause necrosis.  Have fun!
