My compression garment was loose for 3 days before I could get it changed. Is that a problem?

Thank you for your question.It shouldn't be a problem depending on how much swelling you have. You may require a tighter garment for a little longer. Your plastic surgeon will be able to advise you.

Thank you arlendevon for you question.  Proper compression is important to help bring down swelling after a procedure and help reduce the chance of fluid build up (seroma). Although the garment being slightly loose for a few days shouldn't interfere with healing I would suggest you touch base with your board certified plastic surgeon to see if they would like you to do anything in the meanwhile. 

It shouldn't negatively impact your results. However, I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding compression. I have my patients wear customized compression. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Compression garments are meant to reduce swelling and to support your new body contours, however, I would not be worried about the loose garment affecting your overall results. If you are still concerned, you can speak with your surgeon. Best of luck.

It is preferable to have a "snug" garment in place, but there are surgeons that do not even use garments. If concerned, then I suggest you review it with your surgeon.

No.  The lack of adequate compression will not interfere with your final results.  Some surgeons do not even use garments at all.I like to use the garments to reduce the swelling and bleeding/bruising immediately post op.  Using them longer than 2-4 weeks has not changed the final look at 6 months in my 23 years of experience.Best of luck with your continued healing.Dr T

Thanks for the question. Having a couple of days where your compression is a little loose probably is not going to compromise your long term result at all. The compression is probably most important in the first few days after surgery to help with the bruising and swelling. Best,~Dr. Sieber
