A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are surgical and non-surgical options to correct this. We can place a chin implant, which is a quick surgical procedure. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, however, so for those patients, we also offer non-surgical chin augmentation with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra are injected into the area to improve the overall appearance of the lower face and balance the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline, and improve the chin crease.Implants are a great option once you are ready for permanent chin enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or an aesthetic facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Donald Groves; we are both located right here in Los Angeles. Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph. The projection of your chin is slightly small, but the overall development of the lower jaw appears good. A small chin implant or a genioplasty procedure can address your concerns. In terms of deciding on the magnitude of changes, I always suggest using computer imaging and simulation in 3D. The reason is that the true profile is an interesting angle, but one that we rarely see of ourselves. We see a lot more of our semi-profile or oblique view and front view. As a result, the design and planning for chin augmentation are more effective when they incorporate all these elements rather than just the side view. This can be done rather well using 3D imaging and simulations.
You would benefit from a chin implant to correct your side profile. This is done intra-orally under general anesthesia, takes about 1 hour to perform and costs $4,000.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.
Overall, you appear to have a pleasing facial profile appearance. You may have a bit of a recessed chin appearance which can cause your nose to appear more projected than it is. Depending on your examination, a small chin implant may be considered for achieving an improved facial profile balance. Thank you so much for your question. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph
In your case, your mental or chin region of your mandible has slightly insufficient forward projection. This can be corrected with a sliding genioplasty, chin implant, or using fillers. Each of the procedures has advantages and disadvantages.I suggest consulting with plastic surgeons and oral surgeons in your community to get an assessment and better understanding of treatment options. Both specialties Contribute to this type of work.It seems to me that oral surgeons tend to prefer the sliding genioplasty while plastic surgeons tend to prefer using implants, but either specialty should be able to do. Either of the procedures are temporary very forgiving if you don’t like the outcome.Finding sufficient provider is the most important variable, regardless of what procedure you end up having. To find the right provider, I suggest scheduling multiple in person consultations.During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of the before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own.An experienced provider should have an ample number of example before, and after pictures to show you.Being shown a handful of pre-selected images representing only the best results of a provider career May be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider or how many of these procedures they have actually done.Highly experienced providers should have access to hundreds of before and after pictures to choose from. Thank you for your question. Most common chin implants are silicone, and the second most common are Medpor implants. The implants can be reduced in size and replaced, but it is not very safe to downsize them in place because of the risks to the surrounding soft tissues. It is, however, possible...
Thank you for your question. Two weeks following chin implant surgery, the lower part of the face is swollen and distorted, which has very little to do with the final result. This swelling unfortunately creates a strong perception of imbalance. As the swelling decreases, you will see a very...
Hello and thank you for your question. A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are both surgical and non-surgical options to correct this. They would both help to add projection and slight vertical height to the chin and face, and can help improve overall...
