Hello; I am a healthy 42 year old female who had juviderm injected into cheeks/under eye but the best rated dr in town :) (June 2016) I noted about 4-6 mo after a swollen little spot/bubble under my rt eye & consulted w/the dr who did the injections to be told it was allergies. This summer I went to a new clinic who said it was the product and that my filler was dissipating and new filler may cover the issue but it was this was not the case. I have returned for more hylorondz with no change.
Answer: Long-term Swelling after Tear Trough Injections with Fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero) This is unlikely to be filler, at this point. A combination approach will give the most improvement for under the eyes. Fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP can improve under the eyes. My patients try to get non surgical treatments to avoid surgery. We use PRP and stem cells there often. I suggest consulting with an expert to develop a treatment plan best suited for your short and long term goals. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Swelling under eyes. Unfortunately it is quite common and known problem although for years under-reported. Many injectors avoid this area. Nearly all cases are related to hyaluronic acid filler injections although other fillers were occasionally implicated. One of the most commonly reported filler is Juvederm but it may be caused by the popularity of Juvederm in the US. One of the most recommended filler in this area of face is Belotero which also is a hyaluronic acid filler. Yet, even with Belotero, many cases were reported. Interestingly many in many cases the swelling may occur many months following the filler placement, sometimes even beyond its stated longevity. As mentioned in other comments, the swelling may fluctuate, disappear for days or weeks and may be aggravated by unusually high intake of water or salt as well as travel to higher altitudes. This phenomenon is poorly understood and inconsistent and unpredictable. The treatment, more intuitive than not, is rather simple and consists of injection of hyaluronidase that dissolves hyaluronic acid. It may take, on occasion, more than one injection. Theoretically, this swelling occurs only after hyaluronic acid based fillers are injected and should not happen with other fillers available here such as Radiesse, Sculptra and particularly Allofill.

Answer: Could be aging changes On of the things that can happen is that patients can attribute aging changes to filler. If this showed up 6 months after filler and after multiple hyalurunidase injections, it hasn't resolved, it certainly could be aging changes that have started to develop. There are treatments for festoons that can be done.

Answer: Swelling Under the Eyes I am sorry that you have had this experience but you appear to have a poorly understood problem called periorbital edema. This is easily diagnosed if you press firmly on the tissue of your lower lid against the bone just under your eye or orbital rim for a few seconds. If, after, you have a pit or indentation there that last for a few minutes then you have this condition. It has nothing to do with your injections bit any type of trauma to this area like an injection, will exacerbate the condition. You may not have noticed any swelling before the first injection but it was there. Most patients who have this report that the swelling is worse in the morning, when they have a cold or during allergy season, if they eat too much salt, etc.I hope this helps.Best regards.
