Is this hyperpigmentation permanent following laser hair removal after SMP? (Photo)

Question

I had got smp done about a year ago and I also went through 2 laser tattoo removal sessions to alter my hairline from the smp (there was easily a gap of 8-9 weeks between both the sessions). The last session I went through was on the 14th of December 2018 (25 days ago). Suffering from post inflammatory hyperpigmentation because of the laser removal and was initially prescribed a hydroquinone cream which worked initially but led to relapsed hyperpigmentation. Is it permanent? what can I do?

Scalp MicroPigmentation or SMP is basically a tattoo.  Laser tattoo removal does not usually cause hyperpigmentation.It is best to see your doctor or a dermatologist for an examination.

A bit hard to say from the one photo.  It takes 6 weeks for skin cells to be replaced, and it can take more than one cycle for things to settle out so whatever you're seeing isn't necessarily permanent.  Follow up with the physician who prescribed with hydroquinone.

SMP removal is typically very low power laser treatment and typically unlikely to cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.  Were you seeing a dermatologist for these treatments?  If not I would seek advice from a good derm in your area, one who really knows lasers, and get a second opinion with an in-person exam.  Good luck!

You have clearly seen a doctor who prescribed medication for you. Go back and speak with your doctor who seems to understand your situation
