Scalp MicroPigmentation or SMP is basically a tattoo. It is best to see a doctor if you are considering a SMP procedure. Many doctors or non-doctors have different opinions and care regimen. Each session can range from 4 hours to 8 hours and you may need anywhere from 3 to 5 sessions depending on the work needed.
The number of sessions can vary due to the quality of the pigmentation applied and the technical ability of the individual applying it. It´s normal for the first and often the second session to fade. The first session can fade much faster as much of the pigment leaves the skin. The remainder leaves a base for the next session to be applied. The time span can vary dependent on the technician from a few days or maybe 2-4 weeks. The second is normally much stronger laying down the quality of the pigment. Most people will have three sessions and this can be over many months. The length of each session really depends on the surface treated. It could be an hour or so up to a day procedure.

If the skin tend to be oily, it will take extra one or two sessions to give optimum results. Ideally, sessions should be 2 weeks apart. Aftercare, varies depending on the pigment used, mostly no hair wash for 2 days (sometimes more, again depending on the pigment used) and no heavy sweating for 2 days.
We generally tell our patients that it will take three sessions of SMP to get it right and that they should be spaced at least 2 weeks apart to mange the exfoliation of the skin that occurs on cycles.
