Would I be a good candidate for Kybella and/or chin implant? (photos)

Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable.  It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.

Chin/neck definition is something that is influenced by genetics, bone structure and soft tissue. Weight loss and gain can change the amount of fat in the surrounding areas and affect the appearance also. Depending on your x-rays, sometimes bone surgery can move around the maxilla or mandible to get an improvement if needed. Surgical options also include chin implants and liposuction for the neck.  
However, in my practice a lot of patients can be treated non surgically with just filler injections such as Kybella or Juvederm. This avoids surgery and usually the patients are very happy. These procedures can be done safely in the office and the results are often very satisfying. An in-office private consultation and examination with a board-certified plastic surgeon would be the best way to fully  address your specific concerns and determine the right treatment plan.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Both can be potentially good options however best advise would be for an in person consultation to advise you. Other options can be skin tightening post kybella or liposuction to maintain your skin texture and laxity of skin as prevention. 

Great question, and these photos are super helpful as well! Congrats on your tremendous weight loss.  A lot of women struggle after such weight loss because they lost weight in some areas like the face and breast and wish they had lost more in the abdomen and legs! To improve the contour of your face I would recommend cheek filler to give you a more youthful look and so you'll camouflage the appearance of the slight bags under your eyes. I do not appreciate a lot of fat under chin, so kybella is not really necessary. I agree that a chin implant would enhance your profile. Make sure you go to an experienced injector for your cheek filler and a board certified plastic surgeon for your chin implant. Good luck!

Hello. The answer is yes. You are a candidate for Kybella. It could be an effective non-surgical procedure to eliminate fat under your chin, without any damage to the skin or other tissues in the area. As an auxiliary treatment, you could have a filler for chin and jaw projection, to improve your face contour. Contact a specialist in your area for an in-person exam. You can have great results. Kybella is a nonsurgical alternative for treatment fat below the chin. I use it in patients with a small amount of fat under the chin. In your case, Kybella maybe a good option. You could also consider a small amount of filler to the chin which would work like an implant although the results would be temporary lasting up to a year. Filler can also be injected along the jawline if needed to improve jawline definition.

In the profile photos you submitted, I believe you would benefit most from a combination of treatment with Kybella (especially the fortified formulation, known as mesolipotherapy, which has 42mg/ml deoxycholate) and a small chin implant.  If you were to choose only one, I would recommend the original formula mesolipotherapy.  While you will go through tremendous swelling the first 2-3 days, you will see improvement by the end of one month, and great results by the end of 3-5 months after injections.

 The photographs demonstrate fatty deposits in the neck which are best removed with liposuction or a neck lift.  Liposuction removes fatty deposits above the platysma muscle in the neck,  while surgery is required to remove fatty deposits below the platysma muscle which also includes a platysma plasty.  No skin removal is required.  There is also a recessive chin profile present, for which a chin implant can significantly improve the projection of the chin which will give better structural support for the soft tissues in the neck.  Removal of fatty deposits in the neck and placement of a chin implant are complimentary procedures to each other.  Both can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending upon the patient's desires.

 The primary reason for your double chin is not related to fat which you probably already know. The reason is your mandible is small and lacks projection.  This goes hand-in-hand with your dental overbite.  There are people who have a small mandible that lacks projection that still has a pointed shape.  You have this to some degree.  Adding anything but a conservative chin implant will create a distance from the crease just below your bottom lip  to the tip of your chin ( with chin implant ) that’s a bit excessive.  This is sometimes referred to as a witches chin.  If you have a chin implant placed it should have limited forward projection, some volume on the sides and downward projection.  While the primary problem is skeletal fat removal in this area works well.  Liposuction is the gold standard and always will be. Kybella has a long list of reasons why it is inferior.  Don’t even think about cool sculpting.  My suggestion would be to find a board-certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon who has extensive experience with chin implants.  Consider starting with liposuction with or without a conservative chin implant. If you go with liposuction only you can always add an implant in the future if you want an even more impressive appearance.  The skin creae just below your lower lip will do well having some filler added.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
