At 4 weeks with thick skin, it is early to see resolution of the swelling.  You would need many months for this to occur.  Once the tip is soft and supple and does not feel hard like bone and you have normal sensation, you will know the swelling has all resolved.

Every surgeon has their own preference.  I like to place a cast after rhinoplasty even if it's just the tip to minimize swelling.  Usually the nasal skin needs to be elevated to see the cartilage underneath.  This will lead to swelling which can travel up the nose.
