Hi, I am getting piezo technique rhinoplasty done soon. And I am really worry about side effect after. The nurse from the clinic I am going to assured me that I won’t have any bruising and my swelling will go away after 3 days. Which is great but I didn’t see anyone’s cases like that. She also mentioned that after 7 days I can go back to my desk job. Please I would like to hear second opinion. Marta.
Answer: Piezo Hi @MartaChudzinska! Piezosurgery is a more gentle technique that allows for greater precision. Less bruising and swelling is common with Piezosurgery. In a typical rhinoplasty, a hammer and chisel technique is performed leading to more inadvertent fractures. Best of Luck, Dr. Nima!

Answer: Hi, I am getting piezo technique rhinoplasty done soon. And I am really worry about side effect after. Advise? Hello,Thank you for your question. The level of swellings depend on the severity of the surgery, the technique used during the surgery and patients healing ability. Swelling is a part of healing and significant part of them resolve in first months and the rest at least after one year following the surgery. My patients operated by the Closed and Atraumatic Technique don't have any bruises, but have puffiness and swelling which is not an obstacle to get back to their social life after cast removal on day 7. Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging procedures in plastic surgery therefore a choice of a plastic surgeon with extensive experience in Rhinoplasty is the most important aspect before undergoing a surgery. Answer: Hmm. The nurse might have exaggerated a bit in describing the speed at which you'll lose your bruising and swelling... If the operation is a real rhinoplasty, the bruising will last about a week, sometimes a bit more. The swelling will take a year for *all* of the swelling to subside, but most of it is gone in the first few weeks. The use of some device won't keep your tissues from swelling and bruising. Going back to your desk job in seven days is indeed realistic, but that timetable works for most rhinoplasty surgeons who *don't* use that device. It makes me nervous when someone mentions that they are having a nose operation *with a certain tool*. There are no tools that change the body's response to surgery, and there are no tools that increase a surgeon's ability to make a nice nose over what he could do with the "regular" tools. Make sure you weren't drawn to the surgeon because of his use of the device, rather than by his before and after photos, which is always the best way to select a surgeon. Remember that rhinoplasty is an exquisitely difficult operation to get right, and you should only have surgery if you are able to make yourself very confident in your surgeon's skills. For most noses, it's much better to not have surgery than to have inexpertly-performed surgery.

Answer: Piezotome rhinoplasty If by "piezo technique" you mean that your surgeon will be using the Piezotome instrument to cut and carve the nasal bones, then I think the nurse may be overstating the case. There arguably is less trauma to the surrounding soft tissues with the Piezotome, but bruising and swelling vary hugely between patients. Some patients (with or without using the Piezotome) will have minimal swelling and bruising and will look pretty good at a week. Others will have bruising up to two weeks. Swelling likewise varies enormously, but even with traditional rhinoplasty instruments most people are not looking too "surgical" at two weeks. You should clarify this with your surgeon and the specifics of your case rather than relying on the nurse's predictions. All the best,--DCPPearson Facial Plastic Surgery®

Answer: Piezo Device The Piezo is a device that uses ultrasonic power to sculpt and shape the nasal bones. Some surgeons believe that it offers more precision in shaping the nasal bones, and can be less traumatic. Regardless of the method used to shape your nasal bones during rhinoplasty, it is very common to have some bruising and swelling. The amount of bruising and swelling usually correlates with the extent of surgery. I usually tell patients that on average the bruising will go away in 7- 10 days.
