Can my cat sleep in the same bed/room as me after Rhinoplasty?

I had my rhinoplasty done a week ago and my doctor told me to stay away from my cat for 4 weeks. It’s unclear to me why and it’s impossible unless I leave to stay with another family member (currently living with my parents) my healthy indoors cat is very calm and never scratches or attacks me, so if that’s what’s dangerous then I have no worries. But could the fur be a problem? He does have long fur. Should I let him sleep next to my feet and not go near my face or should I leave the house?

Hello and thank you for your question. Though the worry that your cat might dislodge your currently fragile nose is one concern, there are also the issues of potential allergens and bacteria. Cats and other household animals can incite allergic reactions or, worse, bacterial infections. A nasal infection could be detrimental to your nose and for your healing process.
I would recommend to follow the advice of your surgeon and, for any further questions, contact your surgeon for any kind of clarifications. Best of luck on your healing journey.

I recommend you follow the advise of your surgeon.  Animals can carry many different types of bacteria and if you are exposed to those while healing, you could develop an infection.

Hi,
I think your surgeon must have in mind some allergic sneezing induced by the car furs ( that will interfere with the nasal fixation and thus delay healing ) or increases chance of infection or even some kind of trauma caused by your cat.
I personally think the suture lines inside nose will heal in 2 weeks time and after that the risk is not as great.
