How much will implants settle over time? I'm 6 days post BA with 280cc high profile gummy bear implants under muscle. (photos)

Hello! Thank you for your question! You are still early post-procedure. Your appearance looks typical at this stage and will continue to improve as the swelling subsides and the implants continue to settle into their desired position. This usually proceeds over the next several weeks to months as the lower pole skin/breast stretches to accommodate the implants. Usually, final results will be seen 3-6 months post.  However, the anatomically-shaped, silicone implants do not tend to drop as the round implants.  Follow-up closely with your surgeon for additional restrictions/instructions and the potential use of bras/garments or massage that may encourage the implant to settle appropriately.  It is not uncommon for one breast to settle more quickly than the other due to swelling, dissection, or muscle tightness.  If still displaced after this time, a surgical procedure may be necessary to further open the pocket and bring the implant(s) down or implant exchange/revision. Right now, you are very early on in the post op recovery period. It will take 3-6 months for you to feel comfortable having implants in your body and for them to settle. This time allows for you to physically and psychologically adapt to your new body image. There are many variables that contribute to a breast augmentation's final result. Preop size and shape, IMF location, location of the implants and type of implant. Patients heal at different rates and each breast will sometimes heal at a different rate. Rest, relax, recover and heal. Express your concerns to your surgeon so he/she can examine you. Then reassess final result at 6 months.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Gummy bear and other textured implants shouldn't really settle much over time. They are designed to remain where they're placed. The skin can loosen and smooth over the first six months to a year as it adjusts to the volume of the implants though. Hope that helps!

It typically takes 3 - 6 months for the swelling to subside and and implants to settle into proper position. Please discuss your concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon. Also, make sure you follow all of your plastic surgeons post-operative instructions regarding level of physical activity and use of a support bra. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Hi and thanks for your questions and posted photos. Right now your skin looks with some brightness because of stretching, after 3 to 6 months your skin will soften, swelling will be gone and your breasts will look more natural.Regards

The implants will settle and the breasts will soften over the next 3-6 months.  Some of what you are experiencing now is swelling.  You appear to be healing well.  Continue to follow the advice of your surgeon and relay any questions or concerns you may have.

Thanks for the great photos and the question. Your implants will come down a little, but you should still retain a lot of that upper pole fullness you like. What is most noticeable now is all of the swelling. If you're only 6 days out, there you still have significant amount of swelling. That will continue to improve over the coming weeks to months. Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation/lifting procedure. Your plastic surgeon will be best resource when it comes to accurate assessment, advice, and/or meaningful reassurance. There are many variables when it comes to how much breast implants will "settle";  the main variable in my opinion will be exactly how/where the breast implant pocket was dissected. Again, for this reason, your plastic surgeon will be your best resource.
 
Generally speaking, breast implants will "drop" into the pocket that was created during surgery. The rate of breast implant "settling" may depend on factors such as size of breast implant pocket dissected, tightness of the overlying skin/muscle layers, and size of breast implant utilized. Normally, it takes about 3-6 months (for some patients longer) to see the final result.  As the breast implants "settle", the lower breast poles will round out, and the nipple/areola complexes will sit higher on each breast mound.
