Numbness in Armpit 4 weeks post op Breast Augmentation.

Question

I had silicone gel implants under the muscle 4 weeks ago. I had severe bruising (black/purple) that has almost gone away (now looks like a shadow now) but is still really sore. The bruising is right where the bra sits across. Is this normal to have bruising this long? Also, I have numbness/itchy in my right armpit above the incision. The numbness/itchy just started a couple days ago. Is this normal? The incision has closed up nicely and doesn't appear abnormal. Thanks- HC

Thanks for your inquiry, but without an exam it is hard to advise. Usually you should have no or minimal bruising after four weeks.  Please discuss with your surgeon.  In terms of your numbness, sensory nerves can take several months to recover after an incision is made anywhere on the body.  Discuss with your surgeon as well.  Good Luck.

Thank you for your question.  Everything you are describing is perfectly normal.  Many patients have numbness near there incision sites for several months.  Be sure the bra is not rubbing against the incision site.    In regards to the bruising, some people tend to bruise more than others.  You should follow up with your surgeon for a physical exam.  I typically like to see my Breast Aug patients fairly frequently during the first few weeks.    Best of luck to you.
