Had Lipo of inner, outer, and anterior thighs on Friday. Legs are totally numb from kneecap to hipbone, which is really disconcerting. When can I expect to have feeling back? I know some numbness can take a long time (weeks, months, or never) to fade, but this is such a large area! And it makes things like crossing my legs or using a laptop VERY unpleasant.
Answer: Numbness Although it is possible to experience some numbness, or other altered sensations, after liposuction, most often this resolves over the course of the first few months. Rarely, it may require a full year for return to normal. Best regards.

Answer: Numbness of the leg after liposuction needs to be reported to your surgeon. Generalize numbness over the area described is very uncommon after liposuction. This is something I would report to your surgeon.

Answer: Numbness after lipo There are nerves in the hip and groin area that supply the sensation to those areas of your leg. It's very common to have numbness in areas of liposuction and as you mentioned it can take weeks or months to improve. The good news is that you should expect to have complete return of your sensation in time. It's still very early following your procedure. Be patient. Best wishes.

Answer: Numbness after liposuction As you know, numbness is quite common after liposuction. It is caused by temporary nerve damage. Nerves have a fatty coding called a myelin sheath. The myelin sheath can be damaged from the liposuction process. The actual nerve fibers are typically not cut, and the myelin sheath typically regenerates with time. The nerve damage is referred to as neurapraxia. The more extensive the neurapraxia, the longer the recovery time. The mildest form of neurapraxia is from mild pressure, such as if we sit with our legs crossed and our foot goes numb. That typically resolves within a few minutes. In the most extensive forms of neurapraxia, the nerves have to regenerate most or all of their myelin sheath. As long as the nerve fibers are intact, sensation typically comes back to normal in anywhere between a few weeks to a few months. Rarely does this process last longer than six months after liposuction. I would anticipate your sensation Will come back to normal in the next three to four weeks.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
