Will a syringe help reduce my swelling?

Don't even think about inserting a needle into the operative site by yourself. Swelling is not available to aspiration and if you have a seroma which is very likely it should be handled by your surgeon.

In most cases the swelling that develops after surgery is evenly distributed throughout your remaining skin and underlying tissues.  There is not a discrete fluid collection that you can place a syringe into to draw off the extra fluid. Unfortunately only time will ultimately improve postoperative swelling.  Being sure to use your compression garment will also help minimize the amount of swelling that is created.  

Hello and thank you so much for your question. Only time and wearing your compression garment regularly will reduce your postoperative swelling. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts. As long as you are following the correct protocol, you will continue to see your swelling diminish each week.
