Will a syringe help reduce my swelling?

Question

I had liposuction performed on my stomach area 6 weeks ago. The swelling has gone down by maybe 50%. I was wondering if a syringe was used to remove some of the fluids left, will this reduce the swelling? I'm going on vacations and would like to see my swelling reduced before I leave. Thanks

Don't even think about inserting a needle into the operative site by yourself. Swelling is not available to aspiration and if you have a seroma which is very likely it should be handled by your surgeon.

Thank you for your question. In most cases the swelling that develops after surgery is evenly distributed throughout your remaining skin and underlying tissues.  There is not a discrete fluid collection that you can place a syringe into to draw off the extra fluid. Unfortunately only time will ultimately improve postoperative swelling.  Being sure to use your compression garment will also help minimize the amount of swelling that is created.

Hello and thank you so much for your question. Only time and wearing your compression garment regularly will reduce your postoperative swelling. Unfortunately there are no shortcuts. As long as you are following the correct protocol, you will continue to see your swelling diminish each week.

Thank you for your question. generally post operative swelling distributed equally around the area of liposuction. Also every patients body response differently to surgery. Only time will help you improve post operative swelling.  best suggestion to use your compression garment and follow up.
