Will brief hurried walking 4 weeks post BBL damage my BBL results?

The results immediately following surgery will be the largest due to swelling and lack of fat resorption.  The buttocks will continue to decrease in size for the first few weeks.   I have observed that between 4 and 6 weeks the buttocks tend to stabilize in volume.  Usually by 3 months, the swelling is minimal and totally resolved by 6 months.

Thanks for your question.  There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery.  The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens.  It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient. Patients can return to light activities almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and vigorous exercise 4 weeks after surgery.  We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery. I don't think that a hurried walk would damage your results.

I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Walking shouldn't damage your BBl results.

Post-operative instructions are provided by surgeons in order to avoid unnecessary recovery risks, shorten the recovery length, and achieve optimal surgical results. Essentially, we do not want our patients to go home and when feeling a little better do something that will compromise results or cause complications (like go to the gym and lift weights or go for a run around the block). Therefore, these instructions should be taken seriously and followed appropriately. Unintentional things can happen (we once had a patient drop a large binder on her BBL) and when it does, if it looks or feels like it may have caused a problem it is always best to follow up with your surgeon.

Four weeks after surgery, you should be ok with walking for small periods of time, so it is very unlikely that your results could be damaged by trotting for seconds.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.  It should not affect your outcome to have walked or trotted 4 weeks after a BBL.  I encourage my patients to begin walking some even on the day of surgery.  A little trotting 4 weeks post op should not cause any problems but at 4 weeks post op you will still have some swelling so I would expect some continued changes but this should not be related to your brief trot.  Contact your surgeon if you feel that you are having any problems.

I advise my patients who undergo a BBL to refrain from putting pressure on their buttocks, however I do not give any walking restrictions, in fact I recommend my patients start walking the day after surgery. The only patients I may put a restriction on for amount of walking would be a labiaplasty or inner thigh lift patient. With that being said, every surgeon has different post-op protocol so if you have any concerns I would recommend visiting your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi and welcome to our forum!Strenuous exercise following liposuction may cause elevation of blood pressure and pulse rate, increasing the risk of bleeding for the first 2-3 weeks after the procedure. By now, that risk is reduced and the exertion appears to have been less than maximal. I doubt very much if you caused any damage. I would look for increasing buttock size, increasing bruising, and increasing pain. If unsure, visit your plastic surgeon to be sure all is ok.Best wishes...
