Spider Angiomas Worse After Treatment

Question

4 spots treated on the face. Tip of nose is 3 times as big and color is very visable after cauterization. After the scabs healed skin was bright pink about a week later those areas turned bright red where I can't even conceal these areas anymore. Tried ipl. Color improved at 3 weeks bright red again. Tip of nose no improvement.

There are any number of ways to properly treat and eliminate spider angiomas. I would likely not use cautery (too destructive and non-specific), and IPL or BBL is also relatively non-specific, but can work well in good hands.I would use KTP laser, which I have used for this indication for nearly 30 years. It works well, eliminates most angiomas in one treatment, lightens all of those treated, and if any color remains, can easily be retreated with a simple touch-up laser session (always included at no charge in my practice). You seem to be having treatment where you should not. Consider other options. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Thanks for your post. Spider angiomas and other facial telangectasias can be successfully treated with KTP laser therapy. Other lasers of the appropriate wavelength can be used for selective photocoagulation of these vessels. Complete ablation may require more than one session. Hope this helps.
