T Junction Wound Not Healing? (photo)

Question

I am 3 weeks post op after a mastopexy (no implants) with stratus mesh. This wound is not healing well. My surgeon gave me iodine dressings to apply but I'm worried about the scar it is going to leave. My other breast has healed beautifully and the scarring is barely visible already. Will this heal in time and should I be concerned about the scar?

This is very very common and in most cases you need not worry.  I usually have my patients keep the opening moist with abx ointment.  Over time the scars heal quite well, and rarely need any revisions. If they do need a revision later, Im sure your surgeon would do it.

Thank you for your pictures.  This small wound can be occur occasionally but it usually heals uneventfully.  The scar may be slightly wider but not readily seen.

Local wound care as instructed my your plastic surgeon will heal things up but it will take time. Be patient. You will be surprised how well it will heal up. If you are not happy with your scar there in 6-8 months, then you can opt for a scar revision.

Thank you for sharing your photos.  I find small areas like this will heal well with enzymatic/mechanical debridement and wound care.

	I would recommend paying close attention to minimal tension on this incision site and a soft bra that minimizes friction on the open wound.

A  "T" junction scar sometimes does not heal right away and some do have separation.  Often these heal with local wound care over a few weeks.

HI.What you have is the most common complication from breast lift and reduction. Keep it clean with soap and water. Apply a small amount of of cross counter antibiotic ointment and a plaster. Will heal with minimal scarring.

Thank you for your email.  There is skin necrosis at the T junction of your breast lift scar.  This should heal well and in time I suspect that your scar will be well hidden by the fall of the breast over the scar.
	
	The white material within the scar will not allow new skin cells to grow over it.  Ideally you want the open portion of the incision to be red and clean.  Be sure to consult your plastic surgeon for further advice on managing this wound.  Ask your surgeon if the white material is your own tissue or the dermal graft which was used.  The surgeon may decide to debride or mechanically remove the white material so that new red wound material called granulation tissue will occur and allow new skin cells to grow over it.  With proper wound care you should heal and have satisfactory scar.
