Sleeping on my side after fully Tummy tuck?

Question

I had a fully tummy tuck and abdominal tightening 3 weeks ago. Everything seems to be healing well. My question is when can i start sleeping on my side as I'm getting bored and tired of sleeping on my back. Please advice me further. Many thanks in advance!

I allow my tummy tuck patients to sleep on their side whenever they wish to, and I haven't encountered any problems. I do recommend to my patients that if they sleep on their side soon after their tummy tuck, that they sleep curled up in the "fetal position" to take tension off of their abdominal incision. At three weeks you may definitely sleep in whatever position is most comfortable for you. Thanks for sharing!

You will need to check with your plastic surgeon's care team for clearance to sleep on your side.  I understand that it has been three weeks since your full tummy tuck, and while your healing may be progressing well on the skin's surface, you are in fact still healing on the inside.  Please make sure that you communicate all of your questions directly to your surgeon's office and be sure to follow their instructions so that you heal well with no complications.

Since every surgeon has his or her own unique post op protocol, your surgeon is best equipped to answer this. I typically ask my patients to sleep in their backs for the first two weeks and then however is most comfortable. Best, Dr. Nazarian

I always tell my patients it is best to sleep on your back for at least 6 weeks after a tummy tuck. Anything prior to the 6 week mark, can increase the risk of your incision opening up. Talk with your plastic surgeon for their recommendations.
