Thank you for your question.  An open inguinal hernia repair with mesh can be combined with a tummy tuck, but you would need to have the surgeries coordinated between your general surgeon and plastic surgeon.  Be sure to alert each physician to your anticipated plan.

Having a hernia repair at the same time as a tummy tuck is usually a safe combination.  Discuss this with your plastic surgeon.  Either the plastic surgeon can perform the hernia repair or your plastic surgeon will refer you to a general surgeon who will repair the hernia at the same time as the tummy tuck is performed by your plastic surgeon.

An inguinal or groin hernia can safely be repaired at the same time as your tummy tuck. Often they are done with both your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and a general surgeon. Depending on the extent of your inguinal hernia, a mesh can be used to reinforce the repair. Your insurance company should pay for the inguinal repair too.
