Is there a limit to how much filler can be injected into lips? I received 1ml of Volbella today, but it's too subtle.

Thank you for sharing your question.  There is no absolute limit to the amount of filler that can be placed into the lips, but you can anticipate that smaller lips will accept less than larger ones.  Volbella is a thin filler and offers subtle increases so I would recommend a syringe of Vollure to offer you a more substantial outcome.  Hope this helps. 

You don’t want to overfill the lips, otherwise you get something unflattering and unnatural looking. Your physician is right to begin with a small amount of Volbella. It’s a lovely hyaluronic-acid based filler that imparts subtle, natural changes that can last up to 18 months or longer. If you want more, add more. Just take it slowly, as it is easier to inject more filler than it is to dissolve filler if you’ve overtreated the lips. Too much filler will make your lips look like stretched balloons. But how much filler is “too much” varies depending on the patient’s anatomy. Consulting with a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert at augmenting lips with HA fillers will give you the most natural and flattering results.

Given the size of lips and anatomical constrains and to achieve aesthetically pleasing results, the amount of fillers injected into lips is often more limited compared with other areas. There is really no harm in pursuing a conservative approach when it comes to lip fillers, so if you are not fully satisfied with the results, it would be best to wait for 2 weeks following your injection for all the swellings (if any) to fully subside and go back to your physician for a follow up to determine if more filler is needed. The amount of lip filler will vary for each person based on the pre-existing structure of their lips and the goals they want to achieve. Without seeing you and examining you it's hard to say how much filler would be appropriate. In general, Volbella gives a vary subtle result and most people will need more than 1 syringe. If you are looking for more volume then you may want to consider another bulkier filler such as Juvederm or Restylane. For those that want a lot of volume it's not unusual to give 2-4 syringes of filler, but this is done over a period of months and not in one session. Hello - thank you for your question. There is not a set limit on how many syringes you can do... It is really dependent on how much your lips can fit. We have some patients with 1 or 2 syringes and others with 3-4 at a time. It depends on your desired look and your lip size to begin with.

You can add more than 1cc to your lips.  However, I always counsel my patients on going slowly when adding more filler.  Gradual improvements are a safe way to approach rejuvenation.  Always seek treatment from a qualified physician.

Over-filler lips are something Plastic Surgeons are teased about, and should be avoided.  And yes each individual's anatomy creates limits, as well as their personal desires about the result.  Attractive lips may easily take a few treatments over several months.  This gradual approach lets the surgeon harmonize the existing anatomy and the changes from initial injection treatment.  It sounds like your injector is giving you sound advice.
