Why does my incision look so uneven and lumpy after breast augmentation? (photos)

Thanks for your question.  As you are early in the recovery process, it is a bit to early to assess how your incisions look.  You can expect these to flatten and fade over a period of weeks to months.  If you are still displeased with the incisions after several months, minor revisions performed in the office may be an option.

Incisions take time to heal after surgery. There is some swelling and bruising that will take some time to resolve. I use Silagen which is a silicone based application to the wounds, that can be done twice a day. It will get better...

The best advice that I can give you is that you should speak to your plastic
surgeon. Online consultants are not the appropriate source of information for
you; your plastic surgeon should be your resource when it comes to
postoperative concerns.

This is important because every surgeon has different perspectives, the only
one that should be important is the one that operated on you ;)You should trust your surgeon. They will flatten out.

You are correct that the puckering, particularly on your left, is unusually severe. Maybe your surgeon needed to reinforce the implant pocket in that area with internal sutures. It can take a few months for those sutures to lose their grip on the tissues, so I'd be patient at this point, as frustrating as it might be. It should smooth out. Scar products or massage are not harmful, but will not help this problem.

That look may be related to swelling or internal sutures that usually dissolve with time. The scar usually flattens over time as well. Best to wait it out.

I can't offer any insight into why your incisions look that way. Your surgeon is generally correct in saying that these usually smooth out with time. Your breasts and implants are putting a constant downward and outward force on the incisions that will tend you cause them to flatten out. Also, as internal sutures dissolve you should see additional improvement.

Stacieanna,It is too early to worry about your incisions.  It's very common for the incisions to look bad initially and then flatten out over time.  You should speak with your surgeon and ask about scar massage and silicone products to improve the final scar appearance.Best of luck.Dr. T

Thank you for your question and photos. It looks as though your surgeon used some deeper sutures to help take the tension off of the final closure line. These almost always fade nicely with a smooth contour. I would follow w/ your surgeon for advice on scar management. Best wishes.

Hello Stacieanna,Congratulations on your surgery, and I am glad you love the implants.  All surgeons attempt to close the incision with raised edges to relieve tension from the healing outer skin.  This ridge is created on purpose and will smooth over time (roughly 6-10 weeks) as the deeper sutures begin to dissolve.  Normally this results in the best scar; however, I will agree that yours is a bit exaggerated.  Continue to follow-up with your surgeon to ensure proper healing. Hang in there!

I agree that it's not the most smooth incision but it should smooth out fine. Often the deeper tissues are sutured together in such a way that can cause a more superficial ridge. When those sutures dissolve and the tissue is healed internally the surface tissue will relax. That being said, I would consider some gentle massage and frequent visits to your PS to make sure there aren't any long-standing issues. Hang in there,
