It is usually best to wait at least 6 weeks before performing core exercises of twisting/dancing intensity. Ask your PS for his advice as he/she will know how you are healing.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for your question. The best thing to do is follow up with you plastic surgeon and address all your concerns. All surgeons have different protocols post op. Most intense physical activity should be avoided for about 6 weeks. Best of luckDhaval M. Patel Double Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Hoffman Estates Barrington Oakbrook Chicago Orland Park
Thank you for your question. Every doctor has their own postoperative protocols. I recommend you contact your surgeon to discuss when they would feel comfortable with you doing that.Best,Dr. Michael EpsteinMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
Dear ohenry54,every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. 6 weeks should be enough for the wound to fully heal so that you are able to continue with more strenuous activities.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
I would ask your doctor his/her preference, but I can say in my practice usually around 5-6 weeks patients can return to dancing. After 6 weeks patients are clear to perform heavy lifting and strenuous activities. This can change a little bit in patients when the muscles are not tightened.
Each plastic surgeon has their own recommended timeline for tummy tuck recovery, but a good rule of thumb is to wait 6 to 8 weeks before resuming more strenuous exercises. Depending on how intense your dancing is, your plastic surgeon may suggest you allow 8 weeks before you resume twisting and shouting. If your dancing is of the gentler variety, you may get the greenlight to head back on to the dance floor a bit sooner. Best of luck to you!
Every PS has differing postop regimes and you need to run through your intentions with your PS. Everyone heals differently and it depends a lot on what is needing to be done. Your PS is best to address your question.
I advise my patients to avoid twisting activities for 4-6 weeks after surgery. They can increase activities after 6 weeks, and should be back to full activities by 12 weeks after surgery. Each step of the way it is important to listen to your body - if you try an activity and it hurts, then back off and try again after another week has passed. You should certainly ask your surgeon what their recommendation is on post-operative activity level. Good luck!
Most of my patients can go back to light aerobics in 3-4 weeks. More exertion in 6-8 weeks, Sit-ups usually in 8-12 weeks. Best to ask your surgeon.
