Very uncomfortable compression garment.

Question

I’ll obviously call my own surgeon to get her advice but my question is how to deal with a very uncomfortable compression garment. It’s almost like it’s too small with all the swelling. Its cutting into other parts of my body like my calves because it’s just too tight. I’m going to ask my doctor if I can purchase something different that’s a little looser. Also, I’m supposed to wear this 24 hours a day except when showering, at what point can I leave it off long enough to wash it?

Do talk to your surgeon about your garment being too tight, it should be snug but not making you miserable. I recommend to my patients that they have two garments so that you have one to wear while cleaning the other. Good luck!

You should definitely get a better fitting compression garment if this one is causing you pain. It shouldn’t be cutting into you. I would suggest getting two, so you can wear one while the other is being washed.

Buying an extra garment will allow you to wash your current one. It is important that your compression garment fits you properly. It shouldn’t be cutting into any part of your body as this could possibly contribute to swelling during the healing process. We recommend scheduling an appointment with your surgeon to discuss your sizing concerns. It is also important that you follow all of your post-operative care instructions given by your doctor.

No garment is better than one that is not fitting well and causing you discomfort. I would follow your PS instructions.

and if for after liposuction, light compression such as that from SPANX should be 'good enough' and without the constrictions from hooks.  But best to check with your surgeon for what can be used to help you through the acute healing process.  Post-op garments should not be cutting off circulation or contributing to major swelling distal to the garment.
