This is more a matter of are you healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia and the risks of any surgery rather than anything specifically related to the procedure itself. I would first discuss this with your primary care physician managing your Kidney disease and then ask for his/her recommendations.
Hi there- As long as you are otherwise healthy and your medical doctor agrees, your polycystic kidney should not be a reason you cannot proceed with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Good Luck!
Prior to any elective surgery it is important for you to obtain proper medical clearance from your prior doctor (and any specialist) prior to surgery. As long as you have the clearance, normal labs and you are an appropriate candidate for the intended operation, you should be able to have surgery. Good luck.
This is something that needs to be addressed by your nephrologist. PCK is not a contraindication to a tummy tuck as long as everything else is in check and is okay.I would personally as for a medical evaluation and clearance by your nephrologist and your medical doctor.
Thank you for the question.Yes, tummy tuck or panniculectomy procedures can be done safely for patients with a variety of different “medical conditions”. Careful evaluation and treatment of the medical condition is necessary prior to determining the appropriate candidates for the tummy tuck procedure. In your case this would be best done by your internist and nephrologist. These physicians know your situation best and would be best suited to discuss your suitability for the procedure and the potentially increased risks/ complications that you should consider very carefully. Once these doctors provide you "medical clearance", please make sure you are seeking consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons who preferably work with board-certified anesthesiologists in fully accredited surgery facilities. Then, careful communication between all the doctors involved will be helpful when it comes to providing you with optimal care. Please make sure that you keep your overall health/safety as the first priority. Best wishes.
A Polycystic kidney by itself is NOT a contraindication to having a Tummy Tuck. If you are healthy and can tolerate the operation, you would risk the same risks as others. to be safe, you should share your wishes with your physician and let him/her tell you where you stand.
Only possible with a FULL medical/renal written clearance from your medical doctor. I would also only do you as an overnight hospital patient for your safety. From MIAMI Dr. B
A tummy tuck is a big procedure that requires you to be in good medical condition. If your kidneys are functioning at a normal level then you should be able to do the surgery. Just because you have the disease does not mean that the kidneys can not tolerate the procedure. Your doctor will need to do some tests to see how your kidneys are performing, if your nephrologist has not already done so. If your kidneys do not need the help of dialysis and are keeping your blood chemistry's normal then you could probably do the surgery.Best Wishes.
This is something that you, your private medical doctor or nephrologist and a plastic surgeon would have to discuss. It can not be answered with a simple yes or no.
Most people(women) seeking abdominoplasty have a reproductive history, which usually presupposes a normal pregnancy without toxemia (hypertension) ,and have had some form of anesthesia for delivery. If everything went well this could be an index of adequate renal function. In any case all patients Going for" tummy tuck" should have a preop medical exam which includes renal function.
As the other surgeons have mentioned, I would discuss this with your surgeon. If you had a history of heartburn they you are at greater risk when a tummy tuck is performed as it causes increased pressure around your stomach and therefore increases your reflux and hearthburn.
For your own safety to ensure that the combined surgery is at unsafe length of time, you will be better off completing DIEP Flap surgery before planning and proceeding with the tummy tuck and liposuction.
It’s normal for patients to have drainage following abdominoplasty surgery. This drainage is initially bloody. It rapidly transitions to a watery red kool-aide consistency. Eventually the drainage becomes clear with a yellow tint.During the process the volume slowly decreases as well. When the d...
