Once fat cells in a given location are destroyed, can they be replaced by other fat cells?

If your question is whether or not fat cells will regenerate in an area after liposuction I'm not sure the answer is known. Most of us think that the number of fat cells carried into adult life is finite. However patients with appreciable weight gain may not follow this pattern.

Once fat cells are removed or destroyed they will not repopulate that area.  However, with poor diet and a lack of exercise, the fat cells remaining can become larger.

If fat cells are removed or damaged in one area, they do not come back in that area.  I suggest seeing a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon with experience in body sculpting to determine your individual needs.  Best, Dr. Emer.
