Hello, I had a tummy tuck 11 days ago after losing 100 lbs. I am super motivated to lose another 30 lbs to achieve my goal now that I have had my skin "fixed". I realize my skin may be affected by further weight loss, but I'm ok with that. However, I realize that my body needs nutrients and calories right now to heal. When can I safely begin to restrict calories (1200-1400 per day) and continue on my weight loss journey?
Answer: Calorie restriction after tummy tuck / abdominoplasty? Congratulations on your weight loss and body transformation! You raise a very good question. I would wait at least six – eight weeks before calorie restriction after tummy tuck/abdominoplasty. It is essential to ensure that your body's protein needs have reduced and the most aggressive phase of wound healing has passed before restricting calories.Importantly, you need to make this decision with your plastic surgeon based on their recommendation and your postoperative progress.I wish you the best.Dr. Gabbay.

Answer: When can I begin to restrict calories after a tummy tuck? Thank you for your photograph and question. Assuming your incisions heal without incident, they will be at their strongest at about 6 weeks after surgery. Though scars will continue to mature and fade, most healing has taken place by this time. I would tell your surgeon about your desires, and allow them to sign off on further calorie restriction based on your specific post surgery healing.

Answer: Tummy tuck I appreciate your question. It would've been best to have been at your lowest weight before the operation. You may need a revision. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz

Answer: When can I begin to restrict my calories after surgery? Based on the picture you have posted, it doesn't appear as though you have an additional 30 lbs that you can lose and also keep in mind that further weight loss may loosen the skin of your recently tightened tummy. Having said that, I would suggest not limiting your calories for at least 6 weeks after surgery and even then make sure that you are getting at least a gram of protein per day for each kg you weigh. It's always best to get the advice of your plastic surgeon as well. Congratulations on your weight loss as well as your surgery and best of luck with your continued recovery!

Answer: When can I begin to restrict calories after a tummy tuck? Thank you for the question and the photograph. Congratulations on your weight loss! I would advise to wait a minimum of 6 weeks to allow for sufficient healing to have taken place. After this amount of time you can be released back to full activity and begin your caloric restriction. Having said that each surgeon has their own way of taking care of the patient in the post operative period, therefore I would recommend you discuss this with your plastic surgeon. I hope this helps. Best wishes.
