Very good question. I would advise switching to coffee two weeks prior to surgery. The reason is energy drinks have a witches brew of various herbal components that can rev up your liver, which will make you process anesthesia at a faster rate than most patients. This can effect our ability to provide you with a comfortable surgical experience. Also, energy drinks are not the best at providing hydration. Best of luck!Matthew C Camp
I would recommend stopping energy drinks over a week prior to surgery. You may need some other form of caffeine to avoid withdrawal headaches. Hope this helpsJosh Olson MD
Thanks for your question. I think that to be safe, I would stop drinking energy drinks about 10-14 days prior to surgery. That should give plenty of time for those elements to clear out of your system and not affect your surgery. Good luck!
I appreciate your question.I have my patients stop any supplements at least 1 week before surgeryThe best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative plastic surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz
I always recommend stopping energy drinks at least 5 days prior to surgery. However stopping 10-14 days prior would be optimal.
Thank you for your question. If you drink a moderate amount stop it the day prior to surgery. If you drink a lot of the energy drinks taper off two to three day prior to surgery.
Thank you for your question. I recommend stopping any supplement, herbal medicine at least 7 days prior to surgery. With many over the counter supplements and drinks poorly studied over the longterm, I prefer to be safe and conservative by having my patients stop any medication, food, or drink that is not medically necessary the week before surgery.Dr Gill

I am comfortable determining whether or not someone is a good risk for elective surgery in the vast majority of patients. A careful history and exam is usually sufficient to determine overall health. Occasionally, I will require a "medical release" from the patient's primary care...
