I'm considering using IV sedation for my surgery but I don't want to be asleep during the procedure. Does it make you sleep or just relax you but you are still conscious? I'm also considering oral sedation. What are commonly used medications for oral sedation? From what I've read it seems like doctors mostly use benzodiazapines. I've taken them before outside of surgery and find that they're very ineffective at inducing sedation. Are they given at larger doses or are stronger medications used instead?
