The manufacturer of Juvederm says the product lasts up to 12 months and that Voluma last us to 2 years. These are typical estimates for patient results and all patients are different. I am not sure what your doctor means by your "immune system" causing the problem. Perhaps for some reason, your body metabolizes the product faster. The only way to be sure would be to see your local board certified plastic surgeon and be evaluated.
Thanks for yourquestion – and it’s a great question and something that we see and hear aboutall the time. Your immune system has nothing to do with how well fillers do –fillers always work so either you need more filler or your injector is notdoing a good job with the injections and the injection process. These injectionsshould always be done in the offices of a board-certified dermatologist orplastic surgeon – there are a lot of people doing them in spas and in otherplaces without the skill and knowledge that we have. Fillers and toxins areskilled procedures – get them done by the true experts.
What you are experiencing is unusual. In my experience, if fillers are not lasting very long, you may be metabolizing them more rapidly than the "normal" patient. But it's more metabolic than immune, I believe. If you were having an immune reaction, I would expect some level of inflammation in the area. There are so many factors at work in your question. The amount of filler being used and the technique all are important. You might want to consider checking with another practitioner for a second opinion.
There are some people who metabolize fillers more rapidly than others, but occasionally these patients just need more of the filler product for a noticeable difference. One syringe of filler (i.e. Juvederm or Restylane) only contains about a teaspoon of material, so if this is spread out in a larger area you probably won't notice much difference with just one syringe. Another filler that may give you better results is Radiesse. It wouldn't hurt to see another injector- make sure it's a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Good luck!
I too don't understand what your physician means about your immune system causing your fillers to only last a month....? After nearly 20 years of injecting, and various products over the years, I cannot tell you one time that I told someone their immune system had any affect on the longevity of their fillers. "Thisanswer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot beheld as true medical advice, but only opinion. Seek in-person treatmentwith a trained medical professional for appropriate care."
One cc, also called one milliliter, is just that a unit of volume measure. A teaspoon has 5 cc's for example. Voluma comes in sealed boxes in pre filled syringes by Allergan. We typically open these in front of our patients.
The truth is that a tube of radiesse gives more lift and longer term results than voluma, but it is not reversible. I find that 1.5-2 tubes of voluma give me the same results of 1 tube of Radiesse. They not equal in volume as they are different properties. However, Voulma holds...
I have never seen there to be any problem with drinking after the procedure. Prior to however it is best not to drink for risk of bruising and swelling is high. Injection with cannula will limit any complications. Best, Dr. Emer.
Hi @Miss Alison! I recommend using Juvederm Volux which is specifically for the jawline. Best of luck to you, Dr. Nima!
If you really insist on it, then your physician should be able to accommodate especially if you sign the appropriate consent forms prior to the medication. I have never had to give valium but I have heard of patients taking it prior to getting fillers. Your solution is easy, find another...
