Hello. I had Botox injected directly into my lower lids last July. I developed swelling of the lower lids. The doctor who peformed the procedure indicated it would go away when the Botox effects wore off but the problem has persisted for 6 months though my crows feet are visible again. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether this swelling can last this long and can anyone offer a good treatment/solution? Thank you!

Answer: Botox and swelling Botox does not usually cause welling. The areas under your eyes look more like fat pads that everyone has, or it may a residual effect of the Botox causing a folding of the skin in a different location. Botox generally wears off in 3-4 months, however, there are some patients who have prolonged "neuromodulator" (paralyzing) effects for 6+ months. Give it a couple of months then re-assess. My feeling is you will require a filler to camouflage the crease. Lastly, does the under eye crease only appear with animation (smiling)?

Answer: Botox or filler? Dear RSProfile, Very few practitioners inject Botox into the lower eyelids. I would check with your injector and be sure they didn't inject a filler material, which is much more consistent with the complaint that you have. If it was filler, it can be dissolved. Good luck!
