Having a baby in June..wanted book and schedule ASAP.
Answer: Tummy tuck Typically I recommend 6 months waiting period. In my own practice it is very common for women to have abdomonplasty after having had c- sections. In general the abdominoplasty scar goes at or more commonly below the old c section scar. Care must be taken when going through the old scar but it is extraordinarily common. I wish you the best and strongly suggest you seek the opinion of the board certified plastic surgeon

Answer: How soon after a cesarean section can you have a TT or Lipo to abdomen? Best to achieve a long-term stable weight prior to proceeding with surgery. It will also likely be in your best interests to have your child a little older, and more self-sufficient, prior to proceeding. A few words of advice, i provide my patients may be helpful: 1. Make sure you are doing the procedure for the right reasons (for yourself) and that you have realistic expectations. Be aware that an improvement in the “problem area” may not translate to an overall improvement in your life situation. You are bound to be disappointed with results of the procedure if your motivation for doing the surgery is not internally driven. 2. Time your surgery carefully; generally, it is not a good idea to have surgery done during or immediately after a stressful period in life (for example divorce or death of a loved one). The additional stress of surgery will undoubtedly be more challenging to deal with if a patient's emotional reserves our already exhausted. Remember, that an improvement in your physical appearance will not translate to an improvement in your life situation. 3. If possible speak to patients who have undergone similar procedures and query them about the toughest times of their recovery period. Any practical hints previous patients can provide may be very helpful. 4. Make sure you are aware of potential complications that may arise how to reach your surgeon if necessary. 5. Make sure you have a strong and patient support system (several people if possible) in place who have time/patience to take care of you. Arrange for professional nursing if any doubt exists regarding the availability and/or stamina of your caretakers. 6. Be patient with the healing process, understanding that it will take several weeks to months to feel “normal” again. It may also take many months/year to see the end results of your surgery. 7. Be prepared to distract your mind with things of interest such as books, magazines, and movies. 8. Expect less of yourself; do not go back to work, school or chores too early and let others take care of you (for a change). 9. Pick your surgeon carefully (a well experienced board-certified plastic surgeon) and trust in his/her advice. Keep in close communication with your surgeon and do not hesitate to communicate questions/concerns and the emotional swings that you may experience. 10. Resume all medications that you were using preoperatively when cleared by your plastic surgeon and stop the use of narcotics and sedatives as soon as feasible after surgery. 11. Keep in mind the end results as you go through the tougher emotional times after your surgery. I hope this, and the attached link, helps.

Answer: Tummy tuck after C-section Whoa! Slow down here! First, you don't know what your abdomen will look like, unless you are a repeat C-sectioner. Secondly, you need to get down to your pre-pregnancy weight and allow at least six months to elapse before a tummy tuck--assuming that you have childcare in place and aren't continuing to breast feed. I would encourage you to see a plastic surgeon when the baby is about 3 months old, if your weight is stable by then and discuss the operation. Best wishes on the baby. Dr K

Answer: How soon after a C-section can you have a Tummy Tuck? You will get a variety of answers about how long to wait after childbirth before having a tummy tuck. Most plastic surgeons would suggest that you wait a minimum of 6 months after a C-section. Some would say wait a year. The reasons to wait include: Your body, including your abdomen is still changing. You may not have lost all of your pregnancy weight. You cannot lift the baby postoperatively for weeks after a tummy tuck. The number of weeks depending on the extent of the procedures performed. You will need additional support at home to take of the baby as well as you. Most plastic surgeons would also suggest that you finish having all of your children before undergoing a full abdominoplasty with repair of the stretched out abdominal muscles. I would suggest that you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Wait 6 months after C-section for tummy Tuck or Lipo Thank you for your question. I recommend waiting at least 6 months and preferably a year after your C-section to allow the C-section scar to mature completely before considering a tummy tuck. While liposuction could be done earlier if the C-section scar is not healing well or is constricting causing a pouch above the scar and I would wait the 6 months to a year or so that liposuction may be used to break up the adherent scar.
