What can be done if my belly button is not centered after full tummy tuck?

Question

I am 15 days post op from full TT with MR, I know that I am still very swollen, however it seems that my belly button is about 1/4 inch to the left. I held a piece of yarn and stretched it from the split of my breast to the split of my pubic area and it is definitely not in the middle. It is not horrible, and probably not very noticeable to anyone without really looking at it. But it still bothers me.

The umbilicus is not exactly in the center in most people (see reference below) and early post op swelling may distort things. Your own plastic surgeon will advise you as you heal about what is expected in your particular case.

Hi! Thank you for the question. It is too early in your post-operative period to know what the final outcome is going to be. However, it is a misconception that the umbilicus is in the midline (center of the abdomen). In fact the umbilicus is rarely in the midline. It is usually located lateral to it. It is early in the post operative course. I would wait until the swelling comes down before being concerned. I would then discuss this with your surgeon.

First of all you still have swelling which may distort the belly button. Please contact and discuss with your surgeon.

Often people may not realize that their belly button is slightly off center.  In your case there is likely a fair degree of swelling that could be making it appear worse.  Make sure your surgeon is aware, and give it several weeks for the swelling to subside to appropriately evaluate.  It may be helpful to also review your preoperative photos as well.  They key is for you to be happy, and if necessary the belly button can be shifted at a later date.  Good luckGaurav Bharti

If, in the longer term ( for example one year postoperatively), the position of your umbilicus remains of concern, it will likely be possible to center it surgically. Best wishes.
