I've had a baby and I've also gained a few extra pounds but it seems like the exersice and diet doesn't help me tighten the lower part of my stomache. The lose skin and baby pouch
Answer: Am I a candidate? From the submitted photo you are a great candidate for a standard tummy tuck. A mini would only address loose skin and muscle wall separation below the belly button. You have it both above and below. The standard tummy tuck would remove excess fat and skin as well as correct abdominal wall laxity. The result would be a flatter, tighter tummy. Answer: Am I the perfect candidate for a mini tummy tuck? A short scar tummy tuck would probably produce the best result with a smaller scar.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Am I the perfect candidate for a mini tummy tuck? No... Thank you for the question and picture. You demonstrate the areas of concern nicely. I think that you will do best with a full tummy tuck operation. The “ideal” patient for tummy tuck surgery is one who has completed pregnancies, is psycho socially/emotionally/financially stable, has an excellent social support system surrounding him/her, is capable of arranging enough recovery time, does not smoke and who has reached a long-term stable weight. Of course, this operation is associated with a longer abdominal wall scar and a significant recovery time; on the upside, the aesthetic outcome is much more likely to be to your liking. In my opinion, the mini tummy tuck is an operation that produces very limited results and is very rarely indicated. It involves a shorter incision but does not address the majority of the abdominal wall issues present for most patients who present consultation. For example, the area of skin excised is quite small. The abdominal wall musculature is addressed below the umbilicus leaving the upper number wall potentially lax. The appearance of the umbilicus is not necessarily addressed sufficiently. For most patients who have had pregnancies and/or weight loss a full abdominoplasty is necessary to achieve the desired results. Of course, there are downsides (including a longer scar and probably a longer recovery time) but for most patients the benefits outweigh the downsides. It is not unusual to see patients who've had mini tummy tuck surgery present for revisionary surgery. I hope this, and the attached link, helps.

Answer: Mini tummy tuck It is hard to tell if a mini-tummy tuck would work for you. From the one photo it is possible that you may have skin laxity and muscle separation (diastasis) above the belly button. This would not be corrected. If you are pleased with you abdomen everywhere except below your belly button then perhaps it is a less invasive and less expensive option. I think that you should discuss it with a surgeon to get all your options and the pros and cons of each. The last thing you want is to spend money and time recovering to be less than ideally satisfied. You could have an amazing result if you do a full abdominoplasty.Dr Rodger ShorttOakville Plastic Surgeon
