In my opinion, to correct your hairline, a surgical approach is necessary. This can be hair restoration as well as forhead revision. As far as thickening the scalp hair, non surgical techniques exist. Finasteride is very successful at improving hair loss. Rogaine and Revivogen are also useful. I would also look out for a new galderma product from legend pharmaceuticals. I've had particularly good experiences with platelet rich plasma injections. It definitely has decreased hair loss and causes thickening in patients with androgenic alopecia. Hope this helps. good luck
You need an examination of your scalp and understanding of risks with realistic goals/expectations. One risk is that forehead reduction surgery leaves a scar on the hairline no matter which surgeon or type of surgery performed. However, most of these scars are not as noticeable depending on how the individual heals. One limitation is that it does not round out the face (temple corners).Hair transplant surgery may be an option for a forehead reduction. Hair transplant surgery does not leave a scar on the forehead. It actually can give you a natural and soft hair line as well as rounding of the temple corners. Like all cosmetic surgery, how "natural" this may look depend on the artistry of the surgeon. Hair transplant surgery limitation is that the results are not immediate and the growth will not be as "full" as a forehead reduction surgery. You can see examples of hair transplant surgery results in the VIDEO.
From the picture, I will assume you are a male. If that is the case, then a forehead reduction with any of the surgical methods available would not be advisable because you don't know if you are going to develop genetic hair loss which is present in 50% of the male population, mostly appearing by the time they reach 40 and often seen in men in their 20s. Thin hair is something we inherit, but if your thin hair is resulting from genetic hair loss, you should see a doctor.
If you have post operative issues, it is important that you contact your doctor. Shock hair loss is a complication after forehead reduction surgery. Scalp irritation is a side effect of Rogaine. You need to go to your doctor and address these issues.
I commonly perform forehead reduction surgery (scalp advancement, hairline advancement) on African-American women and do not see issues with poor wound healing or keloid scarring. While this is certainly possible, it has not been an issue for my patients. Any noticeable scarring that might occur...
Hair loss after scalp surgery is possible, but rare. Permanent hair loss around the incision or other areas might be possible due to surgical technique issues. Temporary hair loss, known as shock loss, is also possible, but very rare. In these cases, the hair will fall out and then regrow over...
