Where is the seal of the breast implant normally located?

On silicone gel filled implants, the seal is on the back of the implant.  This is the side adjacent to the ribs.  On saline filled implants, it depends.  Most saline filled implants have a fill port on the "front" or top of the implant.  This is the side facing the breast.  However, the new Ideal Implants have fill ports on both the top and the bottom of the implant, because they have an inner and an outer lumen. However, it is rare that a women can feel the fill port or seal even if it is on the top surface of the implant and therefore next to breast tissue.

The seal is what I consider to be the back of the breast implant, so I place the seal away from the front of breast. In my experience, the seal is not lumpy, and when the implant is placed behind the muscle (even if the seal were in the front) it's virtually impossible to feel it. For more information on this and

Desired seal of silicone implant is on its under surface. Saline implant seal can be in front or back. Implants can rotate after placement and seal can land up being in front or back. Thus your question has variable answer.

Hi girlnextdoor1Excellent question.Saline implants have a valve that is located toward the front.Silicone implants are sealed with a flat, smooth patch that is located posteriorly that faces the rib cage.The saline implant's valve has not been palpable in my experience.Hope this helps

It is supposed to be facing the back or muscle, but as others have pointed out, it could flip and point to the front.  It can be palpable in very thin patients.

The seal, or patch, is on the back side of the implant, which is the flatter side, while the rounder side, shaped like a breast, points forwards. But implants have been know to flip over. The patch is almost flat and very hard to feel in all but the very thinnest of patients. 

The seal of a breast implant should always be placed facing away from the breast at the chest wall. The seal side is usually more flat, and doesn't have much protrusion to it. In a prefilled silicone implant, you should not be able to feel it either way.

The seal of the silicone implant is placed on the chest wall or muscle. This is because the seal is located on the bottom or flat side of the implant and the top of the implant is rounded and should be placed under the breast or muscle to push the breast forward and make the breast shape rounder.
