When did they start doing submaxillary reduction & what are the long term risks?

I’ve read about some of the risks. They’ve done facelifts for many years before they started doing this.... I’m 67, not trying to look 37, not sure why I should if there is any risk involved ?..…dont feel mine are that large.--- can it be done later? will get clarification re: how it would be done... removing outer capsule? safest way? I might say no. sorry can't get android to transfer my photos to Mac easily.

I believe you are addressing submandibular glands on lateral side of the neck? They are not visible in every neck and most of the patients do not need anything done. In those patients where glands are large and visible before neck/face lift, it should be discussed with the patient; this bulk may be even more visible after neck tightening. In that case, option of gland reduction, including deep fat around it, should be discussed. It is procedure which should be done by a very experienced face lift surgeon and for that reason, it is far from being accepted by every plastic surgeon performing more traditional face/neck lifts. In our practice, we have been performing a partial removal of the sub maxillary gland for cosmetic purposes for over 30 years. Not everyone needs this, and it's only performed when the glands are significantly hypertrophic creating significant neck bulges. There are no long-term complications, since only part of gland is removed
