I had tear trough injections 3 days ago with Restylane. Am I overfilled or too puffy? (Photos)

Question

I’m not sure if it’s too soon or I’m over-reacting but I don’t like how puffy my under eyes are now. The swelling has gone down and have some yellow bruising under my eyes but looks like I have too much filler, bit too puffy near the outer edges where the filler is hanging out low. I asked my doctor and he said “it’s to be expected” - How can I smooth this out / tone it down? Does it look overfilled? I want to look natural.

You have to be patient with tear trough injections.  Even without bruising you can have some transient swelling that can last up to a week.  I would suggest doing nothing other than cold compresses and sleeping with your head elevated to prevent increase swelling overnight.  If you still have swelling after that a short course of an oral steroid is often helpful.  After a few weeks you will know if you have too much filler or not.

Hi @Ski bunny! I would recommend waiting two weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside. If you are unhappy after two weeks, you can dissolve the filler with Hyaluronidase. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

Three days is much too early to assess filler results. Fillers swell to different amount immediately after injection and can take 2-3 weeks to settle out. If you are still not happy with your results at two weeks you should contact your doctor.

Dear fellow skier,I completely understand your concern with the bruising and puffiness under the eyes. However,the tear trough area is a highly vascularized region, and three days is really too early to say anything about reversing your treatment and having any major concern. I would continue to ice, take arnica and avoid any extreme exercise. Also, get in touch with your injecting doctor. Yes it’s too soon! You have a fair amount of bruising and that causes more swelling.  Restylane tends to settle down on its own without massage, and should look better in about a week.  Hope this helps and best of luck.
