Ok to take Sudafed prior to surgery?

In general it is best not to take the day of or before surgery due to the ibuprofen and the pseudoephedrine.  But a few days before should not present a problem.  

Recommendations will vary from office to office. The ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine effects are minimal but best avoided in the immediate peri-operative period. The best advice is to follow the recommendations of your board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS). He/she has developed protocols which has served their patients well and best not to divert from these.

My anesthesia staff and I allow our patients to take 24 hour Sudafed (pseudaphedrine) up to 48 hours prior to surgery.  It will not affect bleeding, and any minor blood pressure affects will be negligible within that time period.  The waiting period for the regular 4 hour Sudafed is only 12 hours.  That being said, the parameters may change some with a patient's personal history (e.g. high blood pressure, etc) and type of procedure being performed.Of course, every surgical team has their own feelings about certain medications and you must absolutely check with your surgeon's office.

By two weeks there will not be a trace left in your body.  SInce your surgeon has no issue, I think you are ok, but better not to take any more before your scheduled surgery.All the best.
