Shortest duration HA filler? Which HA filler lasts the least amount of time?

Hello, most HA fillers will last 6-12 months, and Voluma will last two years. The duration of the filler will largely depend on where it is injected, as we blink our eyes and use our mouth often and the filler will dissolve quicker in those regions. It will last longer in the mid face and temples. Each filler varies based on mechanical properties as well. Consult an experienced injector who understands facial anatomy.

Waste loss is a good indication for midface volume restoration using dermal filler. My preferred filler for this indication is Sculptra Aesthetic although one of the thicker more cohesive fillers like Restylane Lyft would work as well.

Duration of action regarding Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers is a very common question for us in a clinical setting. Over the past 14 years, I have had the opportunity to use all the HA fillers that we have available to us on the Canadian market. There are several factors which will influence how long the filling effect of any HA filler persists. Probably the most significant factor, is the choice of HA filler in regards to thickness. Now, in saying thickness, I am over simplifying a much talked about property of HA dermal fillers. That being said, from a patients perspective, the various dermal filler companies will produce a family of HA fillers, each with unique characteristics, one of those characteristics is what we can call thickness. Generally speaking, the thicker products will last longer than the thinner products and medium products will last somewhere in between. The duration will range from 4 -6 months for the thin products, 6-8 for the medium ones and 12-18 months for the thicker products.
Also important to understand is how, or why we choose a particular thickness of HA filler. Again, to simplify and generalize, the thicker products will provide the most lifting, or filling effect, whereas the thinnest HA filler will provide minimal to no lift at all. Thicker products are more likely to be used in the cheeks, temples, chin and jaw. Medium products in the forehead, anterior cheeks and lips. Finally the thinnest of HA fillers are used to treat more superficial lines and wrinkles.
