Dorsocervical Fat Pad Liposuction- Significant swelling 6.5 weeks Post Op - Should I be concerned? (photo)

Great question. I am sorry for your post op difficulties. I will suggest following your surgeon’s post op instructions as he knows your procedure best. At 6 weeks you are still early in your recovery process, you have yet to see your final results.

Hi Hannah, thank you for your question. It looks like you are making progress. Final results are usually apparent at 3-6 months. At that point, if you are unhappy, rest assured that further improvement will likely be possible.

If you are unhappy with your results please speak to your physician and ensure he was a full body VASER HD liposuction physician with expensive experience in body shaping and not just traditional fat reduction.  At this point you should be using compression, RF treatments like venus legacy / exilis ultra / inmode forma or contoura and lymphatic massage to get you through healing.   We always add shock wave therapy such as cellutone, z wave, and eclipse evive to help prvent scar tissue formation and ensure an even and smooth result. It will take 6-12 months to see the final outcome.   If you are unhappy you can get a revision procedure by an expert in VASER HD lipo.  Best, Dr. Emer

Hannah I appreciate your concern, however it can take as long as six months for all swelling to resolve after any type of liposuction surgery, but especially in the area of your upper back treated recently. You are correct that it is difficult to find a garment that properly provides compression in that area, and for that reason recovery can take a bit longer. Try to stay patient and positive and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Good luck

Final results from liposuction it takes 3 to 6 months. Based on your pictures it looks like you're having a nice improvement. Don't confuse the natural curvature of your spine with excess subcutaneous fat.  There is no compression garment that will put proper pressure on the dorsal cervical fat pad just like it's difficult to get good compression on the pubic area.  Compression garments have no impact on the final results of liposuction so you can illuminate that as a concern. My best guess is your procedure was done correctly and the results you will obtain are as good as can be achieved with liposuction. Congratulations
on your recent procedure...The procedure of liposuction is an
"insult" to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which will
initially totally obscure the operative result. The
purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control
swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the
procedure. Some plastic surgeons will compress longer, some do not apply compression at all. 60-80%
of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder
slowly subsiding over 6-12 months.
Continue
followup care with your plastic surgeon. It's still too early to assess the result.
