I'm 9 months post tummy tuck and 19 days post op abdominal liposuction. Did I mess up my results?

Hello. Great question. Congratulations on your procedure. At  19 days you are still early in your recovery process. There is still swelling present. It can take up to 3-6 months for all the swelling to go down and see your final results. Keep following your surgeon's post op instructions.

After abdominal liposuction, many patients experience a period of “lumpiness”. During the initial 6-8 weeks, you may “feel” firm inflammatory nodules, and by the end of the day, you can actually see them. This usually resolves within the first couple months, but can take 4-6 months for some patients. As long as the abdomen feels firm, you are experiencing postoperative inflammation and cannot truely evaluate your results. It will improve.

Healing can take from 3 to 6 months usually, which is when you get to see the final results from the procedure. It's best to follow your surgeons specific advice post-operatively. I  have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.

You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation and skin irregularities are normal.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

I really don’t believe that very many patients can “mess up their results” as I beleive most of the results occur in the operating room. What you are experiencing is normal swelling and postoperativehealing and based on your photos you will look fine but just give it time. If there is something that needs atttention then get re-evaluated at a year and see. That will give your body the time to get rid of the swelling and skin to heal.

You are still early in your recovery from the liposuction.  Swelling is present and expected at this time.  As the swelling resolves over the next few months you will get a better feel for your final results.  I encourage you to follow the advice of your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns so you can feel confident in your recovery.
