Is it okay to alter my compression garment?

I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

You've invested a lot of time and money in your liposuction. You don't want to get suboptimal results now by penny-pinching on your compression garment. Most dermatology offices do not make much, if any, profit selling compression garments. The one you have now may have stretched out. Follow your doctor's instructions and wear the correct compression garment to get the most uniform liposculpture reslts.

I recommend following up with your Doctor about your compression garment and getting a garment that fits. If it doesn't fit correctly, it can cause irregularities. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. It is important for the compression garment to be very tight, for it to help with the swelling, after surgery, whether you alter yours or get a new one, but please, follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

Following surgery form fitted compression garments with foam inlays are critical to get the results you desire. Once these garments no longer fit, all you need is spanx, which can be bought almost at any outlet clothing store.

Compression garments should provide the right amount of compression to promote healing and keep swelling to a minimum.  Non-medical garments may not work the same way.

Follow your surgeon's instructions to get the best results possible from liposuction.

Generally it is best to follow the instruction of your doctor.   Offices rarely make money on garment sales and sell them at office price.   As garments get old they lose some of their stretch.   I suggest following the advice of your doctor and get the recommended new garment.   My Best, Dr Commons
