Stitch wont dissolve after breast augmentation

Question

It's now almost 3 months since my BA One of the stitches just wont dissolve, you can only see a very short piece of it coming out. It's not actually "splitting out", I think it was just too close to skin, after quite big "scap" fell of. Nurse looked at it and said that the scar is otherwise healed perfectly and it's not open and that there's not much to be done and all you can do is wait. This bothers me, because isn't it so, that if the stitch gets air, it wont dissolve?

It will go away but may take months, you can ask your surgeon to dig it out or try nail clippers to just trim the edge of it down

Please ask your surgeon to check out your sutures. It will gradually dissolve but your surgeon can remove it as well.

You should ask your PS to see you and address the suture.  Being exposed doesn't necessarily equate to being unable to absorb.

your surgeon should gladly remove it for you.  Even if dissolve-able, it could take weeks for it to do that.  Call your surgeon and get an appointment!

Have you PS  remove the suture....if it  bothers you, he will inject a small amount of local anesthesia and remove it. Otherwise, ask if it is a non-absorable suture and  ask the PS  to  remove it. Absorbale sutures  eventually  dissolve.

Stitches get dissolved by enzymes in the body. Every stitch has a half life - ie the time it takes for half of it to dissolve. Most dissolvable stitches have a half life of 28 days. This means that 1/4 will be left after 56 days etc. If the edge of the stitch has come to the surface then you could see your PS and get it trimmed. It will dissolve and I would not be concerned. The things to look out for are discharge and redness and tenderness around that area. i would go back to see your PS if these were to occur

See your Plastic Surgeon to have that suture removed.  Removing the suture will only take seconds.  Not worth the worry!
