A few years ago I went to a surgeon to inquire about a neck lift. I was told it wasn’t possible and that I have a protruding hyoid bone. The surgeon said he had only seen one other individual with a hyoid bone like mine. Is it actually possible to have a neck lift to fix the excess/loose/fatty skin around the protruding hyoid bone? If not, is there anything I can do to lift and tighten the skin so I don’t have that bulge? My neck has been like this since childhood.
Answer: Fat Tissues Around Hyoid Bone Hello, First of all, thank you for your question and pictures. If the fat tissues are around the hyoid bone, which cannot be understood from the picture and it can only be understood via touching or ultrasound, it can be removed with surgery. You need to seek a professional, experienced board-certified facial plastic surgeon to get the best result. Best Regards

Answer: Necklift for hyoid bone I am not sure if that prominence is your hyoid bone. You have a beautiful thin neck and, although I can’t tell without feeling it, I think the hyoid is higher - at the cervicomental angle. If that bulge is cartilage, isn’t it the top of the thyroid cartilage? In either case, a necklift won’t help that area - might even make it more obvious. Again, assuming it is cartilage, it can be trimmed through an incision just below the chin. Be careful what you wish for because you have an amazing neck.
