What bra do you recommend post lift and augmentation? Ive noticed every surgeon has a different protocol. Some say sports bra, underwire or surgical bra. What is your recommendation? My surgical bra is too tight and is leaving marks.
Answer: What are your BA/BL post surgery instructions? Congratulations on having undergone the breast augmentation/lifting operations. As you have noted, there is no “standard” when it comes to the use of specific bras or garments after breast surgery. In other words, different plastic surgeons may have different practices when it comes to postoperative dressings/bras. Therefore, best to check with your plastic surgeon. For example, in my practice, patients wake up with a surgical bra in place. This surgical bra, although not attractive, is supportive and used for about one month after surgery (some of my patients have been known to burn the bra ASAP). Then, patients transition to a soft sports bra. Wired bras are used when breast implants have reached their “final position” and patients have full sensation along the breast skin. Best wishes.

Answer: What are your BA/BL post surgery instructions? Thank you for your question.Every surgeon has a different postoperative protocol. I recommended you stay in close contact with your surgeon to more fully understand what his expectations are. In my practice patient's generally where a post-surgical bra without under-wire for 7-14 days, followed by a sports bra of some sort for the next 4-6 weeks.Good luck with your recovery

Answer: BA/BL instructions HI mtnmama,I usually like for my patients to wear a good support bra, especially after a lift because I don't want the breasts to fall from the position that I put them in, especially in the inferior part of the breast. I don't like an underwire because that can put too much pressure on the incision in the inframammary crease ( bra line). There are some nice bras that provide good inferior and lateral support and that will help maintain the proper position of the breasts without hurting. Body by Victoria is pretty good as are Playtex Cross your Heart and Olga's.Hope this helps.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers

Answer: Post-op Instruction for Mastopexy-Augmentation After looking at your photos, your bra is definitely too tight. We put a surgical bra on our patients, then after 48 hours they remove and put a regular bra that has cups no underwire (we tell them to buy a regular bra and remove the underwire). I do not recommend sports bras, because they push all of the swelling into the lower pole of the breast and give the breast almost a flat appearance. This then takes times to go back to normal and leads to longer healing. The bra with cups and no underwire is worn 24/7 for 6 weeks, after 6 weeks if everything looks good you can start wearing an underwire bra.

Answer: What are your BA/BL post surgery instructions? Thank you for your question and photos. You are correct in that every surgeon may have a different protocol for post surgery care. Therefore it is important to stay in touch with your surgeon and follow their directions. In my practice I do not routinely require a bra post operatively and allow my patients to wear any garment that is comfortable as long as there is no underwire. Again, check with your surgeon.
