Swimming after tummy tuck? 3 weeks post-op.

Question

I am wondering if there is any restrictions on swimming these next few weeks of my recovery. I am aware of the sun/ sunblock concerns — but are there any restrictions with chlorine / salt water pools?? What about going in the ocean?

Alley,I would ask your surgeon first. I allow my patients to swim in pools or the ocean after two weeks or when the incision is closed and no longer draining or with scabs present.  The sunblock is a requirement as well.Have fun in the water.Dr T

Congratulations on your surgery!  I advise my patients to wait six weeks before submerging incisions from a tummy tuck.  After this time they can use a bath, pool, or swim in the ocean.  It is always best though to check with your surgeon as she/he is most familiar with the details of your case and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Please check with your surgeon. If all your incisions are healed this shouldn't be a problem but best to ask.

its not as simply as it seems, you might have a risk of infection with the scar is not totally closed and dry. Take into consideration you can not make tons of effort before the 45th day. Sun block is a must.
