Capsular contracture caused by mastitis- How likely will it come back after a revision?

Question

I developed capsular contracture a couple weeks after I had mastitis while nursing my son when he was born. I have researched all into it and will get a revision after nursing. How likely will it come back if I know it was from mastitis? If I do not plan on having another child or breastfeeding again will it still come back after revision?

Dear 9l7nM8e2e8ia,
capsular contracture happens. In fact, every implant has a capsule form around it, its just a certain percentage develop thick capsules. There is a lot we don't know about it actually. Some think that bacteria that gets on the implant during insertion can increase the risk. Thats why we use a Keller Funnel in our practice to reduce that possibility. Our capsular contracture rate is less than 2% because we use a keller funnel as well as meticulous operating room techniques.

Capsular contracture is a known problem in breast augmentation, and there is good data that supports it is caused by bacteria in some way. If you are to have a revision, I think he would only be at a slightly higher risk of capsular contracture. This will not be because you had mastitis but more so because you already had capsular contracture. I think that it is worthwhile to have a revision after you are done nursing

One of the causes for capsules is an infection, whether from the breast of elsewhere in the body.  You can still get a capsule from other infections. I do recommend taking antibiotics prior to dental work to decrease the risk as well.

I have seen this occur in the past.  You will need capsulectomy to alleviate this.  There can be up to a 30 % chance of recurrence.  Occasionally a textured implant in this case may be necessary.
