I would like to augment my cheeks with Radiesse. After reading so many bad things about Bio-Alcamid permanent filler, I am a bit afraid about Radiesse, though I know that the substance is totally different. I woul like to know if Radiesse is as safe as the acid hialuronic or it can lead to infections and lumps like Bio-Alcamid. Thank you
Answer: Radiesse Is A Safe, Natural, Semi-Permanent Volumetric Filler With A Long, Proven Track Record I have experience using Radiesse for about fifteen years, back since its early days when it was called Radiance. It is generally a safe, natural (made of a calcium-based material akin to bone and teeth), semi-permanent (lasts about a year to two) volumizing fillers (imparts good lift and projection) and a relatively long track record of use worldwide. Its downside is that no enzyme is available to dissolve it easily should there be any form of untoward reaction. That having been said, I rely more heavily these days on hyaluronic acid-based volumizers, such as Voluma XC and Restylane Lyft (my favorites in my Upper East Side Manhattan office) and Stylage XXL, Emervel Volume, Hyaluronica 2 (which I opt for in my Israel satellite facility, where a far greater number of regulatory agency approved volumizers are available). I do not use silicone, artefill, or bioalcamid, all of which are permanent fillers, as these are difficult to impossible to remove once injected and, since they are entirely foreign-to-the-body materials, all, not surprisingly, have been associated with some rather severe short and long-term problems.

Answer: Is Radiesse a safe filler? I would say that Radiesse is a safe filler. I would definitely recommend not using Bio-alcamid, as I have seen many problems develop after use of this filler. Radiesse would ultimately dissolve about a year of so after it is injected. Although it is possible to develop infection or lumps with any filler, Radiesse should be less likely to have these side effects as compared to Bio-alcamid.

Answer: Safe and Reliable Thank you for your question. Radiesse is an FDA-approved subdermal implant (injected below the surface of the skin) indicated for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (nasolabial folds) for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in patients with HIV. I use this in my practice for facial contouring and hand rejuvenation as well. It's fast and reliable. - Dr. Dickerson
