Cheek Augmentation - Radiesse vs Voluma?

Radiesse and Voluma can both be used effectively for adding volume to the cheeks. Radiesse provides initial immediate improvement, but is in a gel carrier that resorbs over the first month as new collagen is stimulated in the area injected. An advantage is that it can give more definition and structure to the face. Full results from Radiesse may take longer to appear than a hyaluronic acid filler such as Voluma. The advantage to Voluma is that effects are immediate, and it can be dissolved if you do not like how it turns out. I recommend visiting a board-certified dermatologist for an in-person consultation to discuss your goals and options.

I think radiesse is actually better than voluma, in my area most people metabolize HA fillers pretty quickly and radiesse seems to last longer and give more volume for the amount of syringes used.  However, it cannot be reversed.  Often I will use Radiesse on the bone and Voluma in the fat to get a very sculpted appearance.  This is all personal preference and technique.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question.Both of the products do a very good job at giving volume to the cheeks.  I do not see much of a difference in longevity of the products, even though it is advertised differently.  I think the product used is truly based on the preference of the provider.  Good luck with you decision.

Dear JBUK,Thank you for your question. Radiesse lasts 1-2 years and Voluma lasts up to 2 years. The main difference is that they are two completely different materials. Radiesse is calcium hydroxy-appetite, which is a substance found in bone. It is radio opaque like bone meaning if you ever needed an xray on the face, you would be able to see the filler there. We don't have an ability to dissolve Radiesse if we want to. The substance of Voluma is hyaluronic acid which is a substance found in the deep skin. We have a medication that can dissolve Voluma, making it a safer product.If you have never had your cheeks done before, I would try a reversible product like Juvederm (also a hyaluronic acid.) See if you like the look and feel and then when it is time to repeat the treatment, you can choose a product that is meant to last longer.Good luck!

Both actually work great in the cheeks. It really comes down to price and longevity. Voluma will last up to two years while Radiesse will last about a year. I would suggest trying them at different times to figure out which one lasts longer and then determine which one is more economical for you. Depending upon the amount of volume that you need you may also discuss fat grafting with your surgeon, which can be the most economical and longest lasting volumizer.Good luck!

Hi JBUKThank you for your question.  Both products are great to use when thinking about cheek augmentation.  It all comes down to product, duration and costs.  Voluma is a hyaluronic acid base product drawing water to the area making it more fuller.  As we age we begin to loose a lot of volume.  The good thing about Voluma is it is known to last up to 2 years. Radiesse is a Calcium Hydroxylapatite which works by stimulating your own collagen adding more fullness. Both Radiesse and Voluma can give great results for cheek augmentation.  The main difference is price and how long they last.  I typically see Radiesse results last for roughly 8 months.  While Voluma advertises results lasting up to 2 years, I typically see the results lasting around 18 months.  Voluma typically cost twice as much as Radiesse.  Best of luck!
